Independent Medical Exam (IME)
An IME is an exam where a person is evaluated by a doctor who has not previously treated them before. The two most common reasons insurers schedule an IME are to determine if previous care rendered by other providers has been both reasonable and necessary and to get a second opinion in regards to the type and necessity of future care.
- Please bring a government issued photo ID so that I may confirm your identity.
- Prior to conducting an IME the insurer will provide me with the medical records detailing your previous treatment. I will review these records to familiarize myself with your case.
- Please bring with you any diagnostic images (MRI, X-ray, CT scan etc)
- Due to space limitations only your legal representative or a translator will be allowed in the room during the examination.
