There are times when an insurer or legal representative may seek clarification about a patients current status, past treatment or need for future treatment. An experienced medical examiner may be contracted to review all the treatment provided by many different providers. The reviewing doctor is often asked to answer the following questions.
- Has the treatment rendered so far been reasonable and necessary?
- Has the patient reached maximum medical improvement (MMI) at this time?
- Is further treatment warranted?
- Are the patients symptoms and diagnosis consistent with the objective findings recorded in the treatment records?
